any recommendations for the above please ? - the lower the weight the better but must be fully functional and somewhat under £1,000 - I am too nervous of taking on macbooks and asus seem short on spec - jarani

May I ask what are you going to be using the laptop for?

'somewhat under £1,000' - what do you mean by that please? £900 / £700 / something else? Anyway that's a lot of money to be spending on a laptop.

For Dell & XP you need the Vostro range - here are a few 13.3" Vostro 1310s to consider, ranging from £388 to £622 delivered (with the XP option), OR £374 to £595 with Quidco cashback click here.

Don't forget to select XP before adding to your basket.

There's also the 14.1" Vostro 1400s to consider

crossbow7 - just came in and will study
this will be used at school to lug about
by a 14 yr old granddaughter
so it should be about 1.5 kg max
not much into games but school work
photos and music and msn and such

jarani, I'd go for the 2nd one click here, as it comes with a dual-core CPU & double the hard drive space for only £22 extra over the 1st. Also, one can select XP for no additional cost. But it weighs 2.2Kg apparently.

Quidco will give ~£17 cashback, making it £393 in total.

Which Asus laptops with XP were you looking at? Perhaphs those are lighter. For the intended usage, even a basic spec would be sufficent.

There's also the Asus EeePC to consider click here. Purchase links click here (plus 4% cashback click here) or click here. G
