Because IEE Wiring Regulations state you can't: "Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower itself. Any fitting used in this zone must be low voltage, (max 12v) and be rated at least IP67 which is total immersion proof".
The transformers sold for LED lamps also contain a voltages stabiliser IC and a rectifier, using a halogen transformer will not give optimum results and may burn out your LED lamp.

The light must be jet-proof in a shower. Some of the 3rd party diagrams are inaccurate/out of date, according to my electrician who did the bathroom electrics.
