I've got an old emachines, specs are as follows;

2.4 Ghz Intel P4
768DDR Ram
ATI Radeon X1600Pro 512mb X8 AGP
Old Motherboard don't have a clue what it is
60 + 160GB IDE hard disks

Basically, i want to rip out all the rubbish like motherboard, CPU and new ddr2 ram and probably change the agp graphics card.
I only have about 250-300 quid to spend and have no clue what to get, please could you recommend me some decent parts that are in my budget.

cheers.

This would have been better posted in the Helproom.

The motherboard's identity should be listed on it somewhere (might need a pair of reading glasses!)

The short answer to this- if you intend doing this for a money saving exercise - don't bovver
start afresh-with a new barebones system.
Otherwise you are in grave danger of finding your self in an endless loop of spending money on parts to replace parts that are incompatible- backward compatibility not with standing.
Of course if it is idle curiosity and and have bottomless pockets then go ahead
for all you parts which ever way you go click here is a good place to start

If you download the crucial Ram selector program this will tell you what the MoBo is and and what RAM you need. click here
