Separating audio from WMA file

Hi,

If I've got a WMA video file and just want the audio, not the video, how do I go about doing this? I literally want to strip out the audio and save it as another MP3 or WMA audio etc

I'm sure there are plenty of apps that I could pay for to do this, but am looking for a free/trial app that would let me do this

Cheers

Take a look at Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

redmonkey: I think you mean you have a WMV file, (rather then a WMA file).

Having looked at the Audacity site it is unclear that it will strip out the audio from a WMV file. Perhaps someone who has used it will know for sure.

I can confirm that it is capable of doing that, simply by playing the movie file in WMP and using Audacity to capture the stereo output from the soundcard, much as you would when recording an internet stream. It saves it as an uncompressed WAV file or as an MP3 or OGG file if you download the appropriate plugins.
