Samsung camera malfunction

My daughter has a Samsung S630 digital camera. She brought it to me and asked if I could "sort it out". The problem is that the lense is out and when you switch it on three beeps are are heard and then it switches off and the lense stays out. It appears to be jammed. Is there some setting that needs changing or is the camera in need of repair. She's only had it since June.

I had the same problem when I first bought my Minolta E203; the fault developed after about three months of ownership.

I returned it to Minolta who, after a technician's unsuccessful attempt to repair the camera, sent me a brand new replacement within 48 hours.

This is definitely a return to vendor if new or back to Samsung for repair, if out of warranty..
The olny proviso- a new camera may be a better bet when the repair price comes in view
