ipod software problems

My wife has a "ipod nano", and my son a "normal ipod".
Both software is loaded on this laptop (xp home sp2)
Problem is as follows:
When my son has been accessing his ipod software and loaded some tunes, and then my wife wants to hook up her nano, it asks her to update her soft ware to a newer version, or to reload the software from her disk.
As it is at the moment every time the user changes, the software has to be reloaded. Any suggestions please.

I'm not sure, but perhaps having separate user accounts may solve the problem.

Other than that, I assume that both are using iTunes to load up music. If so, download the latest version (7.0) and this should simply recognise the two iPods as separate devices, and make sure both iPods have the latest software downloaded on to them as well.

This is a problem with the ipod as I have an ipod photo 30gb and my daughter has a ipod nano and when accessing my itnues library it does the same which I think Apple have to find a solution to this problem
