HTC A8181, Whether to Buy a Geniune Replacement Battery?

I am going to give a no longer used HTC A8181 phone to my Son. It requires a new battery.

Am unsure whether to buy a compatible battery or genuine one from a safety point of view. The genuine one would be from Ebay (only place I have seen one)and I am wondering if I can be sure it would be genuine in any case.

As I am giving the phone to my son, I am particularly the replacement battery I buy from the internet will be safe.

Any advice?

Hard to tell on eBay if you will be getting the original battery, I would be wary of some of the sales that say original.

People tend to be a bit paranoiac about this. The batteries sold as compatibles are usually made in the same factories in China as the genuine ones and sold for a cheaper price. Used many for laptops etc and never had a problem. Remember the major battery recalls have been for major brands eg Sony, Dell etc.

Thanks all. Will consider all your advice.
