free image recovery software

hi, i've accidentally deleted an image from my sd card that i'd like to retrieve. i'm looking for a truly free program that would help. i've tried a few that claim to be free/trial/demo but all have stated that i can only save the image after paying for the full version. i really don't want to pay anything to retrieve just one image.

has anyone used a free program and can recommend it?

Both are good, but my preference is zero assumption

Excuse my ignorance but is this SD memory card from a digital camera?

1. Will your 2 links provide S/W that will retrieve images from the SD card?

2. Is Zero Assumption free, or is it only free for SD recovery - found the web site wording a little confusing, probably because I don't understand all the facilites of this prog.
Thanks David

thanks for your suggestions hss. unfortunately the first link isn't free, to recover the files it requires purchase. they're a bit sly about it all, they show you the files can be recovered but then ask for payment before you can actually recover them.

the 2nd link is better. it hasn't recognised my full 512mb capacity but it will give me the one image i need.

david, yep it's a digital memory card and both programs recover images. zero assumption is only free for image recovery as you assumed.

success.....had to make an educated guess as to which image needed recovery since zero doesn't show previewed images but then the program is free so i'll just be grateful!

thanks again david

Just interested, how did you manage to find the image you wanted amongst the many - does it give you just the file names (you said the image is not displayed)? Thanks David

Does PC Insp (FREEWARE) display the image you need to recover, or just lists the file names?
Thanks David

Both programs display thumbnails of the recovered images

Your PC Insp option seems to be general recovery prog for HDs as well as SD Memory cards. How do you set it up to recover SDs. Do you plug your camera via the USB to do it? Thanks David

David I have a cardreader, so I just insert my mediacard then select my reader "E Drive" from the dropdown "Select Drive" menu
