Canon budget lens

I have recently aquired a second hand Canon EOS 20D which came with the EFS 18-55mm lens. All reviews I read of the camera are positive, but it appears to be the opposite when it comes to the lens. Is it really akin to sticking a milk bottle bottom onto an otherwise high spec system??? I think not ! I am of the oppinion that any optical discrepancies would only become apparent upon close scrutiny of large blow ups. What do others think?

The lens is certainly not one of Canons better ones, but is more than adequate.

If you are lucky you may get one of the few really good versions, otherwise, use it closed down by a couple of stops and you may be suprised with the results. For the price it is very good.
