batch renumbered pics in wrong order in slide show

  hatrickj 20:49 02 May 2006

I used a batch renumbering program, actually Microsoft’s for the photos I took on my recent foreign tour. I extracted the photos I wanted for a slide show as per this example
5 14 17 26 50 106 but when the photos were burnt to the CD they were in a different order, namely
106 14 17 26 5 50

Can anyone tell me why this happens? Is there a way to avoid the difficulty, a renumbering program that gets round difficulty?

You need to use leading 0's;
005 014 017 026 050 106 etc
There are probably simpler tools than this (click here) around for renumbering alone, but it does have its own renumbering function, far right of the screen.

If you are using Nero Express, drag/add your files into the ‘Disc Content’ window.
Above the main window you should see ‘Name’ with a green bent arrow normally pointing downwards.

Clicking on the arrow will make it point upwards and also reverse the numerical/alphabetical order of the files.

Always use three digit numbering [upto999] using the 0 where appropriate - thus 001-009 then 010 011 etc
other wise default numbering is always 1 10 12 then 2 20 21 22 etc.,

Thanks everyone. I found that Irfanview can do the job. Did not know one could use leading 0s so started at 100. I know now!

Don't forget that CDs play from the inside out (the opposite to a vynil record), so the reversing of the track sequence will be necessary (as I found out to my cost the first time I did a music compilation!)
