I'm soon to get delivery of a computer with XP Home installed. I am wondering about the usefulness of it's installed firewall. Any comments will be appreciated.

It is certainly better than nothing, but Zone Alarm is free for home use and very good

If it is the same firewall as xp pro it stops stuff coming in but does not stop your computer sending stuff out, whereas other (free) firewalls do both.Sygate is a good one, I have found.

Make sure that you only run one firewall, should you decide to install something like ZoneAlarm.Running two firewalls together can bring problems.
