Win XP and (older) games/Master Disk Question

I have now resolved some of this issues in the following post:
Should I buy? Time XP2600+ Model S3418

Thank you to all of you.

However:
I have started this post as my questions have now changed and this forum doesn't allow me to edit subject titles (or does it?).

I would like to know if Win XP is any good at running older games that I love e.g. Total Annihilation, Roller coaster Tycoon etc. and other classics which I was unable to play e.g. Black & White which required more power than I had back then. If it is unsuitable I can save money on getting no OS and using Win 98 SE ("for computers without windows")which I lready have.

MORE IMPORTANTLY though I am interested in a Carrera SSC PC now and would welcome any comments from satisfied customers as well as a definition of what the "Master Disc" is (apart from sounding like something which could pop up in another Terminator film).
When you buy the thing it gives you an option of OS, of which choices include:

WIN XP + RECOVERY DISK,

or for £10 more WINXP + RECOVERY DISK + MASTER DISK.

I assume this is the Win XP CD in case you need to reinstall from scratch?
