My dad has a amd 1700 with 512mb pc2700 ram, and a ata 133 hard drive along with an nvidia 5200 graphics card. On 3DMARK03 he got a score of 1764. On my pc i got 1115 and my pc is an amd 64 bit 3000, 256 pc3200 ram, sata 150 hard drive and the same graphics card so why do i get such a low score?

I would guess it's because your RAM is half that of your Dad's. I get 3150 with a P4 2.53Ghz, 512MB 2700 RAM, Radeon 9500PRO 128MB graphics card and 60GB ATA100 Seagate HDD. The graphics card and RAM are the most important factors. Also, are you running it as default on both PC's?

Yes it is clearly down to your RAM and your graphics card.

You seem to have a AMD 64 bit 3000 which is cleary much more powerful than your Dad's 1700 XP, but because your RAM is lower and you have the same graphics card, it is limiting and bottlenecking the processing power of your CPU.

If you had more RAM and a much better graphics card, then you will see a huge jump in your scores and it will take extra power of your CPU thus not limiting it.

I thought the amount of ram played no part in 3d mark. When I added an extra 256 to my machine I got exactly the same score. Ram only helps when actually playing games.
