I'm hoping to get the Canon D1250U2 Scanner. Is there anything I'm going to need or should it all plug in ok? I'm a bit of newbie with all this computer stuff but I've got a reasonably new computer but hasn't got anything fancy, just the usual sort of stuff. Will it be ok?
To both goll_y and pc-cillin, just got my hands on a visioneer 9020 from dabs for £85 + vat, excellent scan quality for pictures etc and negatives/slides alike, also fast operation with usb2, or at least it will be when dabs get stock of the usb2 pci card, but works with usb 1 seamlessly. The twain driver is very easy to use with simple one touch operation for straight forward scans, or a more involved interface for specific purposes.
Pauper - have you scanned in slides? I'm also struggling to know what scanner to buy as most reviews say flatbeds cannot do decent slide scans. Purpose is primarily to scan old slides, but I don't want to restrict myself with a specialist film scanner (or pay that much). Have just come back from PC World from looking at the visioneer 9020. Chap there seemed to think this was too high spec for my needs and that Epson 1650 would be sufficient, although he hadn't seen a slide scan. He also made comment that a separate transparency adaptor would be better than built-in - I can't see why???
