Can anyone please advise?

Of course its also down to personal preforance and what i want the laptop for but on the facts is one better than another for value?

Can both DVD CD copy and record - same speeds?
Does it matter and what does it mean if one is Core 2 Duo and the other is Intel pentium Dual core?

Both are reconditioned in v good nick.

CPU - Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2390 Enhanced Intel SpeetStep technology 1.86 GHz

Screen - 15.4 WXGA (1280 x 800) X-black LCD

Option 2 - Acer Aspire 5720 £ 295

The Core2duo processor on the Acer is a much better processor. A pity it only has 1gb ram as Vista really needs minimum of 2gb to run well.
The Acer will only have two slots so to update you would need to buy 2 memory sticks at about £10 each. It is ikely the memory needed is :
2X 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMM PC2-5300 (667), 200 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered. But check with Crucial .
As the battery is now old and costly to replace you might be advised to keep looking or consider something new.

Sony wins hands down each time
You should be able to pick up some better spec Sonys on ebay for £350 if your budget stretches
Acer may have slightly higher spec but Sony quality and better components will make it better value for money
