what's your opinion of this comp?

  rickf 20:15 21 Jan 2011

I have just built one with more ram,and a high end graphics, better case and 750watt PSU for about £400.
Thinking of buying this one for my son. I certainly can't build it for this price!!

seems good value, could pick up a cheap ATI HD4000 series to finish it off

I already have a spare nVidia GTS250 with 1g memory and also windows 7 ready to go in. Just a bit concerned about the 500W psu. The seller emailed me the specs for it.

Retail price look about right to me?

CPU: £100
Case + PSU: £25
HDD: £60
RAM: £30
Mobo: £50

Don't for get they're charging a whacking £30 delivery charge on the PC.

  rickf 21:05 21 Jan 2011

The cheapest for this CPU is around £120 iclu of delivery

  OTT_B 21:58 21 Jan 2011

Yes, there were some unchecked estimates in there. Here's a more exact cost, inc delivery:

Processor:£114 (click here)
Case: £30 (click here)
HDD: £41 (click here)
RAM: £35 (click here)
Mobo: £50 (click here) Postage on this item unknown

So, total excluding postage for the motherboard is £270. £40 ish cheaper than the ebay unit

They will use a basic motherboard, RAM, case & PSU. Doubt the included PSU will be able to run your GTS250, or be efficient.

The eBay PC is £314 delivered, but I've made one with ALL branded components for £14 less (£300 delivered with the free delivery option):

£120 AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE Retail click here
£040 ASUS M4A78LT-M LE click here
£029 Coolermaster Elite 342 Black mATX click here
£036 Corsair 430W CX click here (will run the GTS250)
£041 Hitachi Deskstar 1TB SATAII 7200rpm 32MB click here
£034 2x Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz click here

£300 Total

Hopefully all the prices will display in a straight line!

You could easily get away by buying a much cheaper, but very capable, triple/dual-core CPU for £60 less click here. G

Nicely done, Crossbow7

  GaT7 22:28 21 Jan 2011

Oops sorry, I forgot the DVD-rw drive & dedicated GPU! But on the plus side the PSU is guaranteed to run the GTS250.

Thanks OTT_B, but it's going to be a little more than I initially thought! G

Just wondering how this one, particularly the Intel Q8300 CPU compares to the AMD Phenom 11 Quad 955. Both have 4 cores. Crossbow, any ideas as you seem to be be an expert? I know it's only 2.50 as oppposed to 3.20 clockspeed of the AMD.

Sorry, here's the link:

Perhaps I can have this one for myself and give my son the AMD Phenom 11 955 I built recently as he plays a lot of games and it has 8g ram in it.
