I would probably go for 1000 PSU and multipe hard drive rather than 1. Mine is 750gb and it can take over 6 hrs to do proper Virus scan or defrag.

if you're getting am2+ motherboard you really want a 940 black edition (3.4 gz by multiplier only) and 8500 ram.
or am3 motherboard with am3 ram of course.
read 3d guru reports on both chips one great other poor

What would the difference be from what I currently have selected and from what you mentioned?

am3 and ddr3 ram, is the next amd platform. on amd forums the problems with the 955 seem to be on am2+ boards.
you are basically using an am3 cpu on an am2+ board it is backwardly compatible but well, now made for that board, the fastest am2+ cpu is the 940 black edition which i think at the moment is the best cpu amd have had for a long time, it overclocks simply and effectivly.
the fastest ram for an am2+ board is 8500 ram click here which 800gz ram overclocked and only supported by the phenom (i think)
my gaming pc has now gone back to amd because it's, well my favorite.
amd set up
msi k9n2 diamond
amd 940 be (various speeds)
akasa evo cooler
2 x samsung f1 500gb sata
2 x 2 gig ocz 8500 reaper ram @ 1.2
3 x msi 280 gtxoc 659/2300
coolermaster 1000 realpower.

just had it's first birthday (9850be) before

use your board/ chipset as the base building block not the cpu.
use parts made for that build and the fastest speed parts available.
phenom II overclock far better than the phenom, you can get intel faster but it takes a lot more fiddling and a lot more dollar.
good luck.

thanks for the reply.

So do you recommend keeping everything else the same but take the

AMD PHENOM™ II X4 940 (3.0GHz) BLACK EDITION (Socket AM2+)

and getting the faster ram, keep it to 2 sticks though no more.

This better

4GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR 1066MHz - LIFETIME WARRANTY! (2x2GB)

oh, and i still think sli is a complete waste, you pay full price for a card that uses less than half it's potential. if your monitor is 24" or under get 1 good card, maybe a factory overclocked 260 gtx.

yup, always go for the fastest ram your board supports.
