The general rule for software, which is the usual standard procedure:Once the packet as been opened and 'used', no replacement or refunds are allowed [if you use or try the product and you do not like it,and it is not faulty, then you have no claim]unless the supplier is willing to replace or refund. If the cd was proven to be faulty, then it should be replaced under the terms of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.Faulty would refer to the fact that the cd will not work with any computer, so if it doesn't work on your computer, but works on someone else's, then it would be classed as non-faulty, a no refund or replacement is due.

Computer software that has been unsealed cannot be returned for refund under the terms of the distance selling regulations, and no supplier will deviate from this rule.

If the software is still sealed in its factory wrapping however, it's the same as any other product, and under the terms of the same regulations you may return it with seven days of the date of delivery for a full refund.

Unsealed software which is faulty - that is, the CD is physically damaged, or the software is 'not fit' under the terms of the sale of goods act - may be returned for refund. Be warned that the 'not fit' aspect is notoriously difficult to prove, unless the fault is physical damage to the software media - simply saying that a game doesn't do what you had hoped it would do is not an acceptable justification for a refund request.
