Today, Sun 27th at 1130 I tested my Pipex/ Tiscali connection, (bought 8 Mbps, usually get above 4) and got a measly 0.27 and 0.39 Mbps downloads with pings of 73 and 89. No change in my wiring etc . Anyone else with this problem or is ai a Sunday "choking" issue? Have sent an e mail to ISP but am not holding my breath as they usually come back with i d issues etc.

I have a Pipex, (Tiscali, now Talk Talk) up to 8 Meg connection.

Never had the 8, and from what I read few users do. Just tested my connection and its at its normal 5.2Mbps.

Possibly depends on the area in which you live.

I am using Tiscali, and this morning I was getting the usual 2/3MB on a upto 8MB package. Neighbours seem to get a fairly regular 6MB. So in my case. everything is running normal ;o))

It looks like a local service issue, so it might show on the Tiscali on-line service check report. Very doubtful though!.

Whoops- What went wrong there then!.

Thanks for replies - still slow here; I am just wondering if there is a faulty ethernet cable - will try a new one.

rebooted, new cable. Still only 1.3Mbps. Have sent e mail to Pipex as maybe it is a local issue.

Switch from the default Pipex/Tiscali DNS to OpenDNS and test the speed again.

Sometimes the default routing goes haywire causing the speed problems.

Then consider staying with OpenDNS

Can you help by explaining how to switch to Open DNS and back again? Speeds still very slow, and no changes to my software or hardware were done - except I put in a new ethernet cable.Thanks.

have you scanned for spyware slowing you connection down?

  john bunyan 21:20 28 Sep 2009

Scanned with MAB and SAS. Will try again in safe mode.
