Virgin.net BB speeds

I am using Virgin BB 'up to 8Mbps'. The service is reliable but the speed is not as advertised. I don't have a particular problem with this, (do I really need 8Mbps?) other than paying £17.99 for a speed is stable but never exceeds 1.8Mpbs.

As I could get a 2Mbps service elsewhere for a lower amount I am looking to leave Virgin.

In their advertising Virgin state:-

"We'll make sure that you receive the highest line speed your phone line can handle, so you could actually receive 4 Mbps, 5 Mbps or 6 Mbps - basically anything up to 8 Mbps.

To give you an idea of the line speeds you could receive, here's what happened during our up to 8 Mbps tests:

9% of lines received speeds up to 2 Mbps.
16% of lines received speeds between 2 and 4 Mbps.
17% of lines received speeds between 4 and 6 Mbps.
58% of lines received speeds between 6 and 8 Mbps."

My question is, does anyone use Virgin and get any of the advertised speeds above 2Mbps?

Virgin is a Virtual ISP - you need to find out who supplies its broadband service on its behalf to get a better idea.

Another example is Toucan, which offers Tiscali BB and phone services and, what's more, cheaper than Tiscali itself...:-)

Where the first test automatically assumes that I am with ntl and the second that I am with Virgin.
The interesting thing, from my point of view, is the difference in the host average speed.
