DVD Recorders: easy to use, but you cannot do anything else with it and HDD is difficult to change. But it you only want to use it a video recorder, this is the best option.

PC method: multi-function, but very noisy for living room.

The PSX 160Gb HDD version at approx £400 is a bit steep at the mo' especially as we've only had a PS2 since Christmas. It's a 'lovely bit of kit' though. One to add to the 2005 Xmas list methinks.

If you want small and light go for one with Mini DV. (Small tapes for video) and Memory stick for stills. Starts about £300 (cheaper for some brands)
