Yup, i bought mine from computer plus, i think it cost around £27, its a bargain, but remember it "upscales" to HD , it doesnt play allready "HD" movies, but for the money its great, plays AVI , XviD , all the usual suspects. Comes with a thin remote, u can FFW & REW movies effortlesley. I like it.

Can you plug external HD into it?--I assume you can,
but how do you browse the HD? Via the remote.?

Yup you can plug external HD's into it, not sure about the self powered ones, i'll try it and let you know, and yes you just browse the folders via the remote like you would in Windows, selct the file and hit play!
