They crash no more or no less than any other laptop and yes they are good but I think the Sonys are just overpriced. Personally if I was looking for a branded laptop I'd be looking at other makes such as Toshiba. click here pay attention to whether what they are selling is new or refurbished though.

Sony notebooks in this pricerange cannot really be described as over-priced; compare the above spec with an equivalent Dell for example.

I nearly bought the above model recently; in the end, I went for a similar HP that had better battery life and my better half said she wanted the Sony. It's very good quality and well specced. The 1GB of RAM is unusual for £938. The only criticism that I can think of is that my HP has twice the battery life at around 3 hrs.

"its very good quality and well specced"

Do you mean the Sony or the Hp? :)

  ade.h 14:55 26 Nov 2005

Both, actually, now that you mention it. But I was referring to the Sony.

  ade.h 14:56 26 Nov 2005

And why would you pay a grand for it? You can get it for less than £940.

  Need4Speed 16:50 26 Nov 2005

A grand is the rrp, but I have seen it for £920 inc free delivery.

  ade.h 16:53 26 Nov 2005

Never pay RRP if you can avoid it! ;-)

  Need4Speed 16:56 26 Nov 2005

So for £920 does any other similar spec laptop come close?

  ade.h 17:11 26 Nov 2005

Only my HP nx8220 (750)! I looked at a lot of notebooks before making my choice. You might find a good Toshiba at that price, but spec won't be as good. Have a browse at Dabs for a good selection. Its new search system is really good for narrowing down your possibilities. To an extent, it depends what you want from it and what you're going to use it for; but as you've picked a 15.4", you'll find a pretty good range of that type.

  ade.h 17:14 26 Nov 2005

And one other thing that I've just thought of; I haven't seen many laptops that run as cool and silently as the HP. The fan hardly ever runs, it's quiet and very brief when it does, and you can sit with it on your lap until the battery's out without feeling any heat.
