Secure Erase embedded in ATA drives

click here includes an article on this and its complete effectiveness in making data on a Hard Drive inaccessible. It seems that this function is embedded in most ATA drives built since 2001 but not easily accessible. Is this something the experts were aware of. I have always suscribed to the paranoid view that only a blowtorch is 100%.

There have been a number of articles referring to info in the Znet article -- pc advisor I think along with pcworld magazine.

We use it at work when getting rid of old pcs that may possibly contain confidential data but still rely on total disk destruction for the more confidential pcs.

Interesting article.

I prefer hitting used HDD's with a 15lb lump hammer, but i can see the fun of using a blowtorch;)
