The right specs

I was thinking of buying a new agp graphics card and now i have decided to wait for a while. But i still wonder what are the optimum specs to to run an either Geforce 6800 ultra or an ATi X850 PE.

My current specs are pretty good but is it wise to upgrade on this or wait for the amd 64s and slis prices to come down.

My specs:
Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 motherboard
P4 @ 3.2 GHz prescott (478) 800 MHz FSB
2x 512mb @ 400mhz running in Dual channel
Sapphire All in wonder 9800 pro 128mb
100 Gb hard drive @ 5500 rpm
onboard sound.

I dont know whether my 9800 pro is the right card to be paired with a 3.2 Ghz p4 and dual channel ram.

If anyone does suggest that i should take the agp upgrade road with these specs then what kind of performance gain could i get in games like Everquest 2 and half life 2. Any suggestions would be appreciated and welcomed.
