Restocking Fees

Under the distance selling regulations even if goods are not faulty you can examine them and return for a refund, but I notice some companies say they charge a restocking fee.

Aren't restocking fees illegal under UK law ?

Restocking fees are illegal, and by law retailers who enforce a restocking fee policy are committing an offense.

If goods are being returned under the Distance Selling Regulations, then the customer must bear the cost of postage and handling. Note I stated handling, and this is how a restocking fee sometimes get mistaken, unless the retailer makes it clear, that they are charging a restocking fee.
