why will my driver only allow me to set a refresh rate up to 75hz. Although the screen is ok, I wondered why this is the case. The mobo is a Pc chips 841 which has a very good on board VGA chip. The monitor is only a £100 Relisys 17". Could this be the reason?

It may be that you are trying to set too high a resolution - 1024 x 768 is fine with a 17in for most people.

In the case of the refresh rate, the 85MHz setting eliminates flicker for 98 per cent of the population, although some people have no problems with 75 or even 72MHz.

But aim for 85MHz if your card will go up to this at the above resolution.

If you are using XP there is a max setting of 75Hz built into XP. you can use a program to override the default settings: click here
