Hi all

Going to upgrade my PC soon, a complete overhaul, but I cannot find a reasonably price MoBo (£30-£40) of the following spec:

AM2 Processor fitting
DDR2 Memory (room for at least 4GB)
SATA-300
PCIE v2.0
On-board LAN
Decent on-board sound

Btw, which AM2 processor will you be using exactly? G

Thanks for the links, but each of those has Pcie x16, but I hear that PCIE v2.0 has faster bandwidth (and I have a card that would make use of this).

Would the difference in PCIE slot mean a lot, in terms of gaming performance?

PCI-E (16x, or otherwise) comes in v1.1 & v2.0. From the reviews I've read, the difference in gaming performance is negligible between the two. Things may be different with the advent of PCI-E v3.0 mobos & graphics cards in 2010/11(?).

What graphics card do you have btw?

What CPU were you thinking of getting? An Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad will be better for gaming than an AMD AM2. G

Currently have a Sapphire 512MB Ati 4850, and plan to get a dual-core 5200:

I would go for an Intel CPU + mobo for only ~£10 extra....

Asus P5KPL click here = £41
- Specs: click here
- CPU support: click here
- BIOS update most probably necessary to support the E5200 - download from click here

Intel E5200 click here = £57 (price valid until mid-day of 10/11)

Btw, the Intel E5200 will overclock very well too with a nice after-market cooler for £15-20 (e.g. click here). G

Thanks, now I know that the difference between PCIE v2.0 and PCI x16 is neglible, I will just get the cheapest MoBo with the required spec.

Will compare the costs of the Intel of AMD processor, and decide on the next step!
