RobTheOrganGuru:

I have two Lacie External Hard Drives, one a 250gig and the other 500. Had the 250 for 3 years and the 400 for two.

The only thing that puts me off these big drives is if something goes wrong. I'd rather have four 500GB external drives than one 2TB drive. At least then if one goes down it doesn't take all the info with it, if you see what I mean.

Why not wait for USB 3.0 drives to become more widely available and cheaper?

I`m with rdave13 on this one,old addage about all eggs in one basket.two backups mean a nice warm glow that you have belt and braces, instead of oh nooooo all my data lost.

RobTheOrganGuru: Good advice from both rdave13 and mole44 - I have always kept copies on two seperate disk drives, in may case, as I said, a 250 gig and a 500 gig LaCie drives.

The Point here is that I have 3 Internal Drives. 1tb 500gig O/S and General Backup

I have another 2 500 Gig Hard Drives worth of videos ect.

One Of My Drives is almost full so I wouldn't need all desktop drives it would be better to just have one.

You don't seem to be getting much in the way of practical suggestions of a make or model. The latest Western Digital USB 3.0 2TB will be here soon if you can wait a bit click here Fast but expensive and you'll need the USB 3.0 upgrade card I presume - For A Few Dollars More!
