Pixma Survey Program

  carver 20:48 19 Oct 2008

I have just had a pop up appear on the desk top informing me that my printer wants to send a load of info to canon about my printing habits.

Nothing to confidential, just when I installed it, how many pages I've printed, operating system, printers ID number and a couple of other things.

What bothers me is that when I installed this printer I didn't get a chance to say if I wanted to install such a programme in the first place.

I might be a bit paranoid, but it bothers me that I can install this with out even knowing any thing about it.

Its Related to Canon Extended Maintenance Service. Located in \%Program Files%\Canon\IJPLM\

The command is IJPLMSVC.EXE manually delete this file, no more popups...

. . . but thought nothing of it. I let it do it's work and hopefully they'll keep the details for when (if) it wears out or dies prematurely . .

Some HP printer software have similar 'hidden' partitions.
