The FTC in the USA have a useful page with advice how to avoid the dangers of ‘Phishing’. It is equally valid for us here in the UK.

Another site from the UK, with links to examples, is

This may have been posted before, but is worth reminding members of the dangers.

when you start a thread on this site you can if you choose to recieve emails notifying you of replies, along with a link back to the thread. yet some of the advice given in the uk site about phishing says

"Never use a link in an email to get to any web page. If you must go there, type the URL directly into your browser's address bar"

so is this a bad practise?

No, because we don't indulge in phishing trips.

That put him in his plaice.

do you accept C.O.D.?

  WhiteTruckMan 21:50 22 Aug 2005

because it seemed to be encouraging a bad habit.

Arnie-there is no 'plaice' to put anyone. simply asking a question

bugle-never sent or recieved anything COD. why do you ask?

Poor sole...:-)

I think we should skate over this

No offence meant, my apoligies.

Just a play on words WhiteTruckMan > White Van Driver > Delivery Person > Cash on Delivery > COD.

Just wanted to see how many more puns could be found. Still I had better not Carp on, best give someone else the oppur tuna ty.

After all, being a Merchant Seaman and from Whales it would be embarrassing if the FE pulled the plug and I found myself on the Beach.

I just hope this all makes sense and readers don't find it a load of Pollocks.
