Philips LCD TV 32PFL5405H 32" Full HD sound query

  muddypaws 19:46 10 Mar 2011

I have recently purchased the here
Prior to calling Phillips --does anyone have one of these?
The TV sound allegedly has 2.1 via its own speakers.
I can only get the menu to show 2.0 as set and no option to change it to 2.1.
I am connected to Freeview/Freesat and Sky.

Looking at the manual, it does say that "Virtual 2.1 is not available on all models" (page 57).

Thought I had read it all, but may have missed it.
I can feed through my Sony amp 5.1 anyway, but was puzzled.

I purchased this from, M&S and just looked again at their advert.
It quite clearly states that the model has 2.1.
I will give them a ring and query it.

Sorry but the advert clearly states

2.1 system 40 W surround sound (2 x 10 W RMS plus virtual 20 W): Virtual 2.1 speaker system for an incredible 40 W sound (2 x 10 W RMS + 20 W Virtual Power*).

*This virtual 2.1 speaker system

It just manages the speakers to make it sound as if you have an additional speaker.

Presumably it applies to surround setting only. but can't really tell much difference to the bass on there.

Will resolve.

LCD TV's are that thin you can't fit decent speakers into them and keep the cost down, you will notice that nearly every flat panel TV sounds that bit tinny and thats why the home cinema sound system is selling so well.

I'll just rely on my Sony.
I have the TV connected digitally to the amp.
