Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the pre-built systems offered by Overclockers UK?

The one I'm looking at is the "Titan Goliath" Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz @ 3.40GHz Quad Core DDR3 System click here

I've only bought components from them but always had excellent service.

They have very active forums - perhaps ask the question there?

If you're buying this PC primarily for gaming, I'd advise against an i7-based one for now (still too expensive for minimal performance gain). Get an older gen dual/quad core setup instead, along with the best graphics card you can afford. G

Thanks, I'll try that

That's an interesting thought. I was going to upgrade the graphics to a Radeon 4890 and was looking to use the PC for a fair bit of media encoding as well as gaming, so would the same 'rule' apply?

'a fair bit of media encoding' - would depend on what you mean by that.

I've heard the i7s are untouchable when it comes to this kind of thing - but then again, are you prepared to spend an extra £200-300 for this? G

Probably not! Thanks for the advice :)

My system at the moment is a c2d 6700
2gb 5300 ram
+ the usual optical stuff in a Coolermaster Wavemaster case, and the above has been a real boon to my gaming pleasure.
And in the new year(after Xmas possibly)i hope to buy a CPU/memory/mobo bundle to really see the best from my new parts.

If you do go the Intel way then make sure you get the Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz Socket 1366 8MB Cache processor and not the C0 version. The D0 version performs even better.

Incidentally, I read somewhere recently that the 920 and 940 CPUs were due to be dropped anytime soon, so I expect the prices will either fall, or conversely, rise because of their scarcity. TC.

Overclockers are actually pretty decent and their systems, I would go so far to say they are second to none. Well worth it :)

Just be aware their returns policy is somthing like a severn day testing policy if you claim the product to be faulty. It never usually causes a problem with anyone but I always make people aware of that.
