New DVD ROM drive

My DVD rom drive is failing and in pretty noisy death throes.

I already have a fairly new dvd writer so was wondering if there is any advantage in having a second one or should I just buy a new DVD rom drive?

Any thoughts very welcome. Thanks as alwasy, Dio.

Stick to a DVD-ROM drive and keep the rewriter purely for burning purposes.

The DVD-ROM can be used for installing software, listening to CDs or watching DVDs and thus maximise the life of the rewriter (not as robust as a more basic drive); DVD-ROM drives are very cheap these days.

Thanks, that pretty much summed up my own views but just wanted a confirmation.

PCW have a samsung on Collect in store at about £18 so I will probably do that - easy and convenient and no waiting for a delivery.
