Memory or Graphics card ?

My father in law has a Dell Dimension 2400 which runs with 2.6 Celeron, 256mb RAM & a Integrated Graphics card using system memory.

His system seems a wee bit sluggish & I'm wondering if a Graphics card to free up the memory or just adding another 256mb stick RAM would be the best bet.

Thanks for any opinions!

For general computing the memory upgrade would be best....if he wants to play games tho....both

I would add both. Even a cheapo AGP (it can take AGP cards, can't it?) 5200 or 9200 would be a lot better than integrated graphics.

if you want to upgrade G-card, make sure it has a slot becuase Dell machines do not use standard components sometime

g-card will not affect speed

"g-card will not affect speed"

Yes it will as the onboard graphics are taking a percentage of the RAM.

Unfortunately looks as if it will only take a PCI graphics card (shame as I have an AGP Videologic Vivid XS card kicking about my place).

I think I'll definately get him the RAM upgrade as that is only about £20 & then see if I can pick up a second hand PCI Graphics Card from e-bay.
