Maplins - 400GB Seagate External USB 2 Hard Drive

Thoughts on this special offer from Maplins please. Bit bigger than I really need but appears to be exceptional value and will give the facility to back up and place an awful lot of music in a single location.

WAS £219.99 SAVE £130.00 Until 20/02/2007

Anyone see any drawbacks with this that I may be missing or know of better offers elsewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely on "back order" - meaning out of stock.

Whether you would get the special offer price when back in stock may be a matter of debate.

In my local store at Swansea, they had other offers as well, they had 160s 250s and 300s I went for the 300gig for £80 300gig is plenty of backup storage for me.

Head on down to your local store.

Not bad for £89 with free delivery, if you can actually get it for that price.

PCW are also offering External HD's at a good price. Bought a Toshiba 160GB which has a Western Digital Caviar drive for £52. Nice case and has it's own power supply + On/Off switch and neon light which changes colour when the drive is writing.

PCW were flogging WD HDs (500Gb) for £78 but I suspect that they are sold out.

The offer by Maplins is while stock lasts.

Got one a couple of weeks ago, backup software that comes with it doesn't seem that good, but it has got a one touch backup facility with it (if you use the supplied software), it's formatted to FAT32 but can be reformatted to NTFS, the only other thing is the size, about 170mm x170mm x 60mm, a bit big but not a problem, if you do decide to go for one, sign up for the monthly newsletter first and you can get a voucher for another £3 off, I went to the local store in Liverpool for mine, they honoured the voucher,(I printed off the number), they also had a good stock, fast and quiet enough, I think it's a good buy ...alB
