ipod 20GB MP3 Player

Having read as many reviews of various mp3 players it seems that there are problems with support or sensitivity or lack of accessories for most products but less so with the ipod 20GB. I note the aplle does not support WMA file format but as it does mp3 then no real problem for me. Before committing myself to this player I need to know whether if I use this in part as a hard disk can I transfer any files (say *.doc or *.xls)from the ipod to another computer without that receiving computer having any apple or itunes software?

As far as I know, it is possible. You need to enable "disk mode" on the Apple iPod, this will allow you to use the item as a portable hard drive.

Sure you can, it's just a hard drive with the iPod firmware as a front end. As Johnnie_M says, just make sure you enable disk mode and it will show up in My Computer as a drive.
