if anyone ever sets up a take ebay to court website and wants a fiver or even a 100 from each person, how much would you chip in ?

Of course it doesn't stink - the card isn't yours to sell, it remains the property of SKY, and Ebay is very strict about people who try to sell things that don't belong to them. The SKY card, sold as a separate item will not work, so you were in effect trying to sell something that not only wasn't yours to sell, but something that wouldn't work, even with free to air channels.

Don't come here touting for subscriptions to take SKY to court - count yourself lucky that you're not in court yourself.
