Intel Pentium 4 vs AMD Athlon

  gin0_76ph 14:39 17 Jul 2005

somebody told me that the Intel pentium4 3.0 Ghz L775 800 FSB 1mb cache processor is "better" than that of an equal AMD Athlon when it comes to performance, fan noise and durability. is this in any way true? any sugestions on which to purchase for an upgrade? Thanks!

If I were going to uprade I would get a socket 939 Athlon 64.

Doubt if a mere mortal would notice any here

Performance :- as GANDALF <|:-)> said, unless you're a gamer running 3D tests or a frame rate obsessive mortals aren't going to notice a difference.

Fan noise :- if this is an issue, you probably don't want to use the standard fan on either of them.

Durability :- unless somebody can provide statistics proving that one brand lasts longer than another I'd put this down as baseless speculation at best.

Nope. get what ever one gives you best value for money. Generally that'll be AMD.
