I won a computer on Ebay last year and I was wondering what can I do to make it faster and well better in general. Any thoughts?

Up the memory to the max the MoBo will take. 8GB these days ios not OTT. My Mesh which I purchased on 19th January 2010 only has 8GB and is due for an upgrade., 16 or even higher should be the norm these days, IMHO.

I would also consider a SSD in addition to possibly upgrading or adding to you 2TB HDD.

Yes 16GB is OTT for most people unless doing graphic intensive activities.

The most effective update would be the SSD route. Anything else would depend on your budget and what you use the laptop for.

It may not be the cutting edge in power computing but it is not a bad spec by any means. It should run games at reasonable frame rates and remember most games are written to only use one processor core anyway.

Well I am using it as a recording and gaming PC. When I was running such games as space engineers it was extremely laggy and slow as it is a very graphic intensive game. I was wondering what I could do to my PC to try and solve this.

Also I would say my price range is from £200 to £300-400 but I will take in anything above that price too.

Despite the description unfortunately the GTX 640 is quite gutless. It is a card built more for a media centre that does more light gaming than a serious gaming rig. The action starts with a GTX 660 or a 760 for decent gaming performance. With the 640 you will experience a lot of lag.

As said by many 16GB is unnecessary at this time, most games are still 32 bit meaning that they don't use a great amount of memory in any meaningful way. 64 bit titles like Battlefield 4 will become the norm but a good video card will help that processor greatly for now.
