Help me choose please

Hi,

I'm new to these forums but from what i have seen so far, everyone seems quite helpful!

A bit about me...planning on buying a new computer. i'm generally a very risk averse guy so i usually go for brand names such as dell, which cost more and usually not very customisable. That said, i want to go for a built system that doesnt come from such a brand name.

Having only bought from brands such as dell, i have no clue about PSU's, motherboards, cooling systems etc. the only things i cared about were processor speed, RAM, graphics card and memory. so any guidance would be much appreciated!

I will be using the system for gaming mainly, and have a budget of £1400 max.

So far, i have looked at two systems that interest me; one from pcspecialist and the other from cube247. it is very important that the company offers some sort of financing where i can pay a deposit now and pay the rest interest free within 6 months.

The two systems are click here , and the other one:

For the cube system i will be upgrading the power supply to 600W and have a 3 year warranty.

One thing to note is i prefer a more expensive, slower system if it comes from a reputable seller who will deliver a solid product.

So if anyone has any comments on which one i should choose, or if anyone has seen a better system within my budget, please let me know!

Very sorry for the long post!!

p.s. if someone can tell me how to post links, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Or if that question is too long to answer, how about this one:

Which i better for gaming/value: 2 512mb 8800GT's or 1 768mb 8800GTX?

Thanks again.

Better performance is 2 8800GTs.

You really want to spend that much?

Get a copy of PC Advisor and look at the top 5 lists, see what you can get for £800-1000.

E6850 cpu has just been superseded by the E8500 which is faster, cooler, cheaper.

Sure you want the 64 bit operating system?

Why 1000GB hard drives? What are you planning to store??

  Mekanos 14:20 14 Feb 2008

Using it mainly for gaming, and i agree that 1TB is probably going to be way more than i ever use so might cut down on that.

Just want this computer to last for the next 3 years without me needing to upgrade it and still be able to play the then latest games at relatively high graphics settings.

Thanks for the replies so far.

That cube247 Sigma does looks like a proper beast, am seriously contemplating buying one (if I can persuade her indoors). That’s the thing with hard disk space you think you will never use it all, and somehow I always manage it.
