Graphics Card Update

  Zemblet 21:37 08 Nov 2010

Hi, I am looking at upgrading my existing graphics card which is a integrated in a compaq presario sr2109uk to enable myself to use two monitors at a time to speed up CAD and programming work. Ideally I would like HDMI slots but could cope with multiple VGA slots, there is a PCI-E x16 slot free as well as PCI.

What Graphics Card would you guys recommend?

Also with a potential new graphics card this will require a new power supply as the existing PS is 300W.

Again what would you recommend?

I would appreciate all suggestions and I would greatly appreciate suggestions that have a combined total of less than £80 if possible!

Many Thanks

A decent card would be an ATI HD 5570 1GB with VGA/ DVI and HDMI out.
Your current 300w should be fine with that.
The card costs around £65.

Thanks for the reply, I have looked at the specifications for this card and have found that it requires a munimum of 400W power supply, so then surely I am required to update my power supply?

It'll be alright. 5570 is a good choice imo. You could get even away with the more powerful HD 5670 with a 300w PSU.

check that there is sufficient space and the the available slot is the right kind

Try either of these sites click here
and this is a very simple one to use click here

If your power supply is more than 3 years old then you could be running with a 20% loss of power as they degrade over time.

Hi, thanks guys, have purchased a ati 5450 hd 1gb card. Mainly due to price. However now that I have plugged it in, working fine, its cut my integrated sound board off. Is there a way of still using it or a external sound card needed?

Thanks again!
