So what are you trying to tell us?

Your local garage are no good?

  Stuartli 23:32 12 Dec 2008

The vast majority of garages are able to acquire necessary parts early the next day.

But what this has to do with a computer forum is debatable.

Your loss of earnings is unfortunate, but something that happens under such circumstances - no garage or dealership can stock absolutely every part for every model that has been produced, hence the next day delivery service from the major manufacturers.

And why did you need to find your own part?

Good point.

These days all garages have connections to Factors who can supply the parts, very often within the hour.

Not pronouncing on this thread at all, but I don't see anything in the forum rules about this being a computer forum.

I used to use a local garage to service our 3 cars.
They told me one of them needed new front brakes in 4k miles in about 4 months.
Took it to ATS who said i had at least another 6k of mileage on them.
Local garage have tried to rip us off, but not again.
Taken the account to a better garage as have others in the village!

because good service is quite rare these days i thought it was worth mentioning thinking a local garage would give better service than a main agent the reason i bought the part was because they told me monday for delivery and my brother in law works in a parts factor
if i have gone against the forum rules i apologise
but as i said i just thought good service is worth mentioning

I moved to Cornwall in 2000 and took my wife's car into the local garage in Rock.

I had known them for over thirty years and they quoted me £110 for the job. When we went to pick it up this had rocketed to £280 and we only had their word for it we needed the parts.

The car would not start and it turned out it had no petrol. We were sure it had half a tank when we took it in but decided not to make a fuss because we couldn't be certain.

Familiarity breeds contempt and I think many local garages and other services (like so called computer 'specialists') rely on you thinking they are 'Good old boys' to rip you off with a smile on their faces.

polish, lets hope your local garage were wrong, it may well be they were correct.
