It will make no difference just get whichever you fancy. It is more important to have an external drive than worry about make.

Purely for the reason that I have 2 and they are trouble free.

Don't suppose it matters which brand really.

can only relate my experiences with the Freecom classic, which I have had for a couple of years now.
Fast,reliable and not a single problem since new.

The Freecom ones come with Software for backup. Don't know if LaCie does
