  anchor 12:55 01 May 2004

Amazon are selling the 2Mp, 3x optical zoom, Canon A60 for £99.99. This would be a very good camera for a beginner. (P/P is £4.19).

PCW seem to have a number of special May Day offers on cameras, not sure about specifications etc.

I would go for the Fuji A205 as a cracking starter camera, my daughter got hers from Asda £99. Available at click here for £99 including postage and vat plus extras.

See this recent Group Test for digital cameras under £100 - click here. The Fujifilm A205S was rated the best by a mile.

I bought a Concord eye q 4060f 4mp 6x digital zoom, it was £129 in argos might be a bit cheaper now. It takes pictures beautifully and is easy to use, it also has video capyure but it does not produce sound. I had to buy a battery charger as digital cameras go through normal batts quite quick but for some unknown reason i get quite a fare amount of pictures using rechargeable batts. You also have to buy memory cards on the take altogether it cost me about £165 but i think for the quality i get was worth it.......

The Canon A60 has a good reputation. Take a look at digitaldepot refurbs as well some fuji and olympus stuff starting at around £40 ! Purchased the Minolta DiMage X20 recently - a great pocket cam with superb video/audio option and 3 x non extending OPTICAL zoom. Macro mode (close-up) is marvellous ! Do not bother with its replacement the X21.
