hi there, i have £500 to spend on a laptop for a friend, i have never personaly owned a laptop before always desktops, i thought i would just go for the safe option and buy a dell one for her, heres the one i was going to buy inspirion 6400 (£519) click here

But i have now done a bit of research and came across a Acer laptop from savastore for a little less money and more spec.. here click here

shall i go with the safe option with dell or go for the Acer machine?? any help would be much appreciated.. thanks

My preference would be the Dell, I have a inspiron 9300 and it is very good.

Excellent quality laptops at good prices and at competitive prices too.

I would also support Acer, you get more for your money. Right now, Im using an Acer Aspire 3003WLMI laptop and its excellent! - no major problems at all since its purchase, and its been in regular use for the last 8 months.

Been using my ACER for nearly 2 years now, an excellent laptop. Good spec and good price via a Comet on-line promotion.

Dell or try click here

Either. The Dell doesn't have a DVD Writer as standard it would seem - not sure if that is important to you.

The Acer has double the memory although many won't use more than 512MB (depending on use) and more hard disk.

We've had several Acer laptops and no probs with them. There's usually a very good value warranty on offer also which can include accidental damage.

I don't think Dell will match that. May not be of interest to you, depends.
