Can someone advise which of these two latops would be the best buy? I have not had a laptop before and as they cost so much I don't want it to get outdated too quickly. Some reviews say that the Dell screen is not good in daylight. Can anyone help me?

I puchased a laptop for my father recently from Dell - Inspiron 6000 Series.

Don't buy online....speak to'll get a better deal. I got 80GB HD, 1024 Ram, Mcafee Security, Windows Media Centre, 3 Yrs ON_SITE warranty, free delivery and excutive leather case for £710. The online price was £934!!!!!!

I bought 2 6000's for xmas for my sons
for £420 each, great machines and stunning value. Both being pounded away on for homework and itunes and not a spot of bother

For the most part they're essentially the same machine, spec wise. Go with the Dell, they're support is second to none.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I have gone for the Dell inspron 6000. Got a good deal (I think!) on the phone from their outlet dept as they are bringing out a new model in the same series. However, not as good as your deal smy13. How did you get such a deal?!

What spec did you get and what price? What sort of warranty?

Fell lucky I guess, bought at the end of November last year at the time they were running £150 off list price, with free delivery and free double memory. got to admit I've not been able to get with in £100 of that price now. I can only think it was because just after I bought these they started shipping the with XP Media centre Addition, mine only have XP home
