From an earlier question in the Helproom, this deserves a wider audience.

There have been a few queries about files that can't be deleted as they are being used by a process. There is a handy little (12kb)free prog that will unlock the files so that they can be deleted. It is called 'Free file', from click here

From a different angle I usually rename the file to .txt or boot into safe mode and then delete the file. Also if the file is in a folder with a thumbs.db file I usually delete that as well.
