Buying MS Student Software

  realist 19:16 28 Feb 2008

I need to get genuine MS PowerPoint software for my grandson to use as he prefers it to OpenOffice Impress.

I've found this site which on the face of it appears to good to be true:

Can I legally buy it from here, and if I can why doesn't everyone?

Reading the notes on that webpage you need an email address that ends in that is a student email account. If you have access to one then no problem.

Question answered.
Many thanks!

Having investigated further you don't need an email to participate, but you do need to identify the student and their school.

Here is the official site for it click here

Less choice than the site you linked to but works out cheaper for the ultimate edition if you download it.

click here I supplied this to a supply teacher - no requirement for an academic e-mail address and has it`s own CD key on the box. No registration was required.

Downloaded free 60-day trial of PowerPoint and we'll see how we go from there.

We've now ordered MS Office Standard 2007 from click here for £37.45 inc shipping which is the lowest available price for a non-college student.
This looks very reasonable against a rrp of £149.45 but, in my view, this sort of software should be made freely available to schoolchildren through some sort of government subsidy.

I don't think the government should subsidise Microsoft software.

Open Office is free to download and more than adequate for school children and works in a very similar way to Microsoft office.
