Bandwidth monitoring for broadband

I asked BT how I could keep track of the amount of data I was downloading on my BB service. The unofficial advice I got was to try something called 'dumeter' but I can't seem to find any sensible information on this. Does anyone know of it - or of something similar/better? Wouldn't it be reasonable for BT themselves to provide some sort of self-monitoring facility?

I use the Tautology utility - daily and monthly records of incoming and outgoing traffic, small 234k download and freeware:

I use NetMeter as recommended by remind and it does the job including having a monthly total linked to your statement date.
